PostSubject: I'll go third!   I'll go third! EmptyFri 20 Aug 2010, 6:59 pm

Hello Smile

My name is Tessa Quin and I'm a 32 year old Icelander. I have finished my first novel and I've recently started on my second one. I chose to write in English because a) I mostly read books in English, b) there's a much, much larger market for English novels (There are roughly 300,000 people in the world who read Icelandic), c) I write YA and I really like the American style of writing them, d) there are so many lovely English-speaking beta readers /critique partners who help turn a manuscript into a great novel, e) the English language rocks Twisted Evil

I have a Bachelor's degree in business, but I'm returning to Uni this fall to study English. After reading the curriculum, I wish I could skip the first year and go straight to the courses taught in second and third year. Creative Writing! Children's Literature! Fantasy Literature! Okay, so those three are all in the Master's program, but I'm going to try my hardest to get into those classes. It's a small country and I'm sure the teachers will be understanding since I'm especially interested in those courses and I'm working towards becoming an author. I'm not ready to tackle the Master's degree yet, but maybe I will after a year or two of undergraduate English. The Master's essay is only around 30,000 words, and after having written a 125,000 worded novel, 30,000 seems easy-peasy.

Anywho, I've been soaking up knowledge of writing and publishing for the past months, and my first manuscript (YA Fantasy/Adventure) is with my critique partners. I'm very excited about this forum, I think it's great, and especially since I already feel like I know some of you after the WriteOnCon. I discovered that I really enjoy reading things by fellow writers and throwing in my two cents.

Oh, and my manuscript has been stripped down to 110,000 words and I'm working on snipping it further - just so no one goes Shocked over the 125,000 thing.

See you around the forums! flower

Welcome~!

Icelandic? That's so cool. Well, glad you decided to join us (I'm doing the whole English degree thing too atm. It's really a drag having to go through the boring prerequisites that are really just a repeat of what we learned way back in high school.)

It sounds like you'd be able to help with a lot of the technical nuts and bolts as well as the creative stuff. Plot and characterization and what not.

We've got an awesome group growing already!

I think I use the exclamation mark a whole lot... oh well! XP

Thanks guys!

Yeah I tend to focus more on wording than content, although of course I point out things I notice that are sticking out.

And I'm also an ! addict Wink Also a bit of a smiley addict Very Happy I do try to do only one of both after each sentence though.
